Function Follows Form: our whippets are bred to conform to the AWC Whippet standard. If a whippet is properly structured, he will be agile, nimble and run like the wind.

Good Health: The show part of a whippet’s life is secondary to its life as a cherished family member. As a breeder I am obligated to protect the health of the breed in general and Besame whippets in particular. We bred only whippets whose health has been tested. All whippets leaving Besame come with health records and are UTD on vaccinations.

Temperament: Besame puppies are well socialized, lead trained, house trained, and crate trained prior to going to their new homes. (OK, they may not be perfect when they leave!). All our puppies are temperament tested prior to placement.

Public Education: Whippets are not for everyone. I make myself available to answer questions and provide advice/support to those who ask. Breeder support comes free with the sale of each puppy or dog!

Responsible Dog Ownership: Owning a dog is making an agreement to care for a dependent. Responsible dog ownership includes obeying local animal control laws, maintaining the physical and emotional health of the dog, and providing a safe and happy living environment for the dog. To encourage responsible dog ownership all owners accepting dogs from Besame are expected to sign a contract.

Breeders are the stewards of the breed: I believe that a good breed steward adheres to principles of sound and ethical breeding. I do not breed often; I do not sell my puppies to brokers, wholesalers or third parties. I take back any dog of my breeding at any time and for any reason.

Rescue: I will accept a whippet from individuals who did not purchase their whippet from me or from a shelter and restore its physical and emotional health and well-being. Rescued whippets are matched with a new family. All rescues leaving Besame are UTD on their vaccinations, microchipped and spayed or neutered. An adoption fee is charged to help offset expenses. Besame Whippets on occasion works with Whippet Rescue and Placement WRAP and is happy to provide support to individuals who obtain their whippet from WRAP. All rescue adoptions are accompanied by a contract and the same return guarantee as all other Besame whippets.

Spay/neuter: As a breed steward I am committed to spay/neuter of non-breeding stock and provide a spay/neuter rebate of $100 for each puppy I sell that is too young to alter at the time of sale. Adults are altered prior to sale.
